Is it not uncanny sometimes, when you don't know it but there's probably someone in the midst of some random crowd around you, who is a star, someone who is going to shine in the future, be the next Lee Hsien Loong or Rain or Zoe Tay. He could be digging a huge piece of gold from his nostrils or she could have just let off a fart. Or maybe just wearing a casual shorts and slippers and yet there is something in him or her that will soon unwrap its brilliance an show itself to the world. He, who digs his nose, can be a great man.

I have been riding on a cloud, I think so far, enjoying my work thoroughly.

I had this thought on the bus recently, what exactly is this overused term "go the extra mile" for guests? I have concluded that there is no such thing as go the extra mile for all guests. It's going to be like doing hundred metre sprints again and again, with no breaks in between. I think it's better to go a few billion miles more for ONE or TWO guests a day. I'm starting to pick guests and in a rather psychotic way, following up and doing courtesy calls infrequently, greeting them with extra vigour, taking a lot more interest in their itinery and movements in the hotel. Instead of pampering 100 people, why not indulgently spoil one or two to make them feel really REALLY rewarded? I think that's unfair and fair both at the same time. You are going to get a few compliments and perhaps one or two complaints, instead of no comments at all, you get what I'm trying to say?

Yesterday, a walk-in guest came in and enquired about booking a room and suddenly, out of nowhere, she started to cry. She had had a row with her daughter back home and ran away from home. Last week, I escorted a guest up to his room and extended my right hand to shake his left hand, only to discover to my horror that he had a fake left hand. Just today, I checked out a demure, career woman-type guest dressed in the most conservative way, and found that within the span of a night's stay with us, had watched 4 pornographic Pay movies that beared names like "Womb Raider", "Animal Instinct".

A hotel. People always come and go. The Caucasians look more and more similar with their big bellies and corporate dress and black briefcases. But everyday, there is just something different to experience, someone who is more unique than the oddball you met just yesterday. A hotel. Is really a society in itself.
